Hansel & Gretel
Festival Ballet Providence is Rhode Island’s premier ballet company and has been quietly producing first-rate shows since 1978. And their 42nd season opens on October 12 with Hansel & Gretel.
ChatterBOXtheatre ballets are the perfect introduction to ballet for kids, with charming stories and abbreviated lengths, so even Mr. or Miss Squirmy stay engaged. Hansel & Gretel tells the old story in a clever new way, with unique choreography by Ilya Kozadayev and a score by David Ikard.
Festival Ballet is high-quality, with adult-oriented shows (Up Close on Hope; Game Changers) mixed with family favorites (Three Little Pigs, Sleeping Beauty, and –of course – the Nutcracker.) Artistic Director Mihailo Djuric, who himself danced as a first soloist in his native Belgrade with a number of internationally-known stars, has steadily expanded the repertoire in terms of depth and complexity since he took the reins in 1998, enhancing the company’s national and international reputation.
Hansel & Gretel opens Saturday, October 12, and plays six shows through Sunday, October 20 – a 4 pm show on Saturdays, and both 1 and 4 pm on Sundays. Tickets are $15-25.
