Contemporary Theater Company
Here’s a challenge: you have to dream up, write, cast, rehearse, polish, and perform a play for a packed house. Doable, right? Here’s the catch: you only have twenty-four hours to do it all.
If that sounds impossible, you haven’t met the playwrights, cast, and crew of Wakefield’s beloved Contemporary Theater Company as they join forces for their annual 24-Hour Play Festival, now in its 14th year. From the stroke of midnight on January 12th, the Company combines their creative energy, organizational power, and sheer endurance to create five short plays - chronicling the entire feat of creativity and record-breaking coffee consumption on the company’s website and social media - before staging the shows on the evening of the 12th. After the final curtain, the audience joins in on the fun by voting for their favorite plays, actors and actresses.
Tickets for the show (which takes place at 8 PM) are 14.50 and can be purchased online, but you can save $2.50 by ordering over the phone or purchasing or at the box office. This one-night only special event usually sells out, so reserve your spot early; seating is first come, first served, so plan on arriving early, too, and grabbing a cocktail from the theater’s bar. Once the cast takes their final bow, these shows are done and never to be performed again - don’t miss out!
