Bumper Cars on Ice

Remember the fun you used to have at amusement parks, bashing your friends with those little metal bumper cars? Well, now you can enjoy the same kind of fun – only sitting in giant inner tubes on the ice of the outdoor skating rink in downtown Providence.

Pretty much anyone can participate in the action, though you have to be at least 6 years old and 42 inches tall to get your own car. (3-5 year olds can ride with a parent, or anyone else 16 and over.) You make a reservation on line, show up 20 minutes ahead of time, and get oriented and sign a waiver prior to getting in the cars. Cars move forward, backward, sideways and spin 360 degrees, just like you remember, but the ride lasts a full 20 minutes!

Bumper car session times are limited – just a pre-brunch 9 to 10 AM session on Sunday, if you want full ice bumper cars, which might be perfect for young kids (there’s also a 10 to 11 PM after-dinner session on Saturdays, which is great for young lovers.) If you’re not crazy about early or late, there are sessions where the ice is shared by both skaters and bumper cars from 10 AM to 2 PM either day. Tickets are $12.
